Backscatter X-ray machines or "Body Scanners": pros and cons
The Backscatter x-ray machines or as many people call them Body scanners, certainly have drawn up a significant amount of controversy from many people who think that they are simply just to intrusive while there are other people who think that the implementation of them is a necessary endeavor to ensure that every individual can travel safely and securely on an airplane. Obviously, when any controversial debate is centered around homeland security it is bound to get heated from both sides, as this can be a highly sensitive issue. Especially in light of the terrorists attacks on September 11, 2001. Therefore it is important that any person who wants to know more about the backscatter x-ray machines or these body scanners should definitely do some research to see what they are all about and to see the pros and cons of these highly controversial body scanners that many airports are now using.
One of the positive aspects of these body scanner machines is that first of all and most practically it is the easiest option. If a person decides that he or she does not want to go through the backscatter x-ray machine then it will cause problems and he or she will most likely end up not going through the machine in the end. If a person just accepts the fact that it is how security is now in the airports and walks through it, then he or she will most likely just be accepting what is going to inevitably happen.
Yet another positive aspect of the body scanners is that they are helping the government in its long standing fight against terror. It will be hard for a person to not do something that has the main purpose of fighting against terrorism, a thing that many people are both scared of and want to have alleviated from the country and the world at large. A lot of people definitely want to see the threat of terror removed from the world because not only is it a terrifying thing to have as a possible threat, but it also has the potential to be highly destructive to any country or area on which it is targeted. This is definitely not an issue that is just affecting America, but also almost every nation in the world has some sort of issue with terrorism.
Some of the negative aspects of the body scanners in the airport is that there is a very small amount of radiation released. Although a person should know that this is not really a high risk as it is a low level, typical to what any person would get once they go to get an x-ray for a broken bone or something of the sort.
One of the biggest problems that any person has with the body scanning system in general is that it is so intrusive to an individual's privacy, the machine allows an individual to see another person who goes through it essentially naked.
The thing with these machines is that a person needs to decide if he or she thinks that all of the cons outweigh the pros that come with using this machine to potentially make planes safer.
